How to cast a Circle
Casting the
circle can be done a couple of ways. One of the easiest ways is
to see a sphere of blue or gold light forming around yourself
and expanding for about a meter in each direction.
One way is to
use a athame to draw the circle, walking clockwise whilst doing
the visualisation and saying:
"I cast this
circle, a mystical place between the worlds to be my sacred
temple for the work I will perform tonight. I bless thee and
consecrate thee, in the names of the Lady and Lord. The Circle
is Cast. So mote it be!"
Circles are
generally cast clockwise. After the circle has been cast, facing
the correct direction, call to the element and invite it into
the circle, asking it to share its powers and qualities with you
to give you balance. By saying:-
"Powers of Air, of the Eastern Quarter, come into this circle in
love and share your qualities of discrimination, clarity and
knowledge with me, so that I may know you better"
it is
important to remember to thank them and say goodbye after you
have finished, and open the circle again.
This is
normally done by saying thank you to each element in turn
anti-clockwise and bidding it farewell as it returns to its own
realm. After saying farewell to the elements, the circle is
opened by reversing the casting, so if you visualized coloured
light forming a sphere, you take the light back into yourself.
One
Traditional way of doing this is to walk anti-clockwise closing
the circle with your athame and saying:
"By the Earth that is Her body, by the living waters of her
womb, by the fire of Her bright spirit and by the Air that is
Her breath, the circle is open yet unbroken!"
It is usual
to sing the popular Wiccan song "Merry Meet, Merry Part"
