Wiccan Ritual Tools

There are many tools used by wicca folk during a ritual or casting of a spell. I am going to try in this section and tell you about the most common ones.

:.The Altar

The Alter can be kept anywhere. You can have a place that is used for the alter and the alter alone. Unfortunately some people can not manage this (me being one) due to there being children or just not enough space. The Alter is a flat surface one which you can place your other tools upon. Normally  there is a cover of some sort place on top of the flat surface.

:.The Athame
The dagger represents the power of the mind, the decisive cleaving power of clarity and focus. The dagger is often used in invoking and banishing rituals, as it is an active weapon to be wielded. The dagger is also used as a tool to etch sigils in candles, chop wands, cut food, etc, and should be functional not ornamental.
:.The Censer
A vessel suspended by chains, and used for burning incense. They do not have to be fancy or expencive. The incence that is burned in a censer is used to smudge on oneself during a ritual or casting.
:.The Wand

A wand is normally made of wood. It is tool of command. It also can be used for invoking. It can be used to ask the Goddess to help in the ritual you are about to do. It can be used to cast a circle or to stir your cauldron. The wand represents air.

:.The Chalice

The Chalice can be used to drink from when performing a ritual. It is normally placed upon the Alter filled with something (wine, water or something else.). Symbolic of the womb of the mother.

:.The Bell

The bell is a feminine symbol. It can be used at the beginning, middle and marking the end of the ritual. It can be any type of bell. It also represent the Vault of Heaven.

:.The Cauldron

It used to be a cooking item for making magical brews. They are still used today for such thing. Also they can be used for Cauldrons are also used for burning spells, or scrying, which is filling it full of water, and seeing what images come to you out of the water.

:.The Besom

The Besom have been used through history to keep unwanted or bad spirit away. It is also used to sweep the cast circle for cleansing. Keeping one at your front and back door will keep bad spirits out. People also give them at handfasting rituals.
